Refugee statistics According to the UN Refugee Agency, 68.5 million individuals have been forcibly displaced across the world. Displacement is often due to persecution, conflict, violence and violations of human rights. One person becomes displaced every two seconds, 30 people are displaced every minute. One in every 110 people in the world is either an asylum-seeker, internally displaced or a refugee.
