The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office pulled a dead man’s body out of Lake Winnebago Saturday morning.
According to the sheriff’s office, law enforcement responded to the Mill Street Boat Launch at around 11:32 a.m. after a report of suspicious items and clothing floating about 50 feet from shore near the mouth of the Fox River. Deputies launched a boat into Lake Winnebago to inspect the clothing and discovered a body in the water .
The sheriff’s office said that the identity of the body is known but is being withheld pending notification of family members.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of those affected and this will remain an active investigation,” a Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office press release said. “The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Winnebago County Medical Examiner’s Office.”
Law enforcement said that no further information will be released at this time.
