With Valentine’s Day approaching, the pressure to not be alone on this Cupid-blessed day is starting to creep up on all of us.
There’s no escaping the themed candy, jewelry, stuffed animals and heartfelt cards. It started to lurk just as New Year’s celebrations ended.
Whether you have a partner to celebrate with or a good friend you’d like to show appreciation to, it’s a great opportunity to spend time with the people you love. Here’s a few fun ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day in the UW-Oshkosh Titans spirit:
1. Spend time outside
Go for a walk on the Fox River. Bring blankets, snacks like chocolate-covered strawberries, trail mix, thermos with hot cocoa, a speaker and some LED candles tucked in the kayak for ambiance. The perfect timing for a sun kissed golden hour would be 30 minutes before the sun sets.
2. Movies at Reeve Memorial Union
The movie theatre on the third floor of Reeve is often forgotten. Better prices and more privacy — feels like a private movie theater. Their selection usually correlates with what’s coming out in normal theaters, with the program on the cork board on the first floor of Reeve. Bring a blanket, get some snacks and enjoy stepping out of your room for a moment. Grab a late-night dinner from Scottie’s after and debrief.
3. Red or Pink themed dinner at Blackhawk
Get in uniform — pink or red color scheme only (even subtle accents count) and hit up the dining hall. Choose red based foods, such as ketchup, tomato soup, strawberries or red-velvet desserts. To make it more interesting, guess which dish your companion will like the most and after dinner, rate them.
4. Chocolate covered strawberry sourdough in the lounge
Everyone loves bread and it gets taken to a whole new level when mixed with the classic treat. Get a sourdough started from a local bakery or let water and flour ferment for about a week. Decorate your lounge or kitchen area with fairy lights and real or LED candles and the whole mood changes within seconds. To take it to the next level, prepare some spreads and toppings for the sourdough. Honey butter, strawberry icing, sprinkles or fresh strawberries with cream cheese.
5. On-campus Valentine’s Day events
Probably the easiest and most rewarding way to celebrate on-campus. This year’s Involve App includes card making at TUG and vision board night hosted by Women in Medicine. Bring your galentine’s (or guy-lentine’s) and get crafty.
