Living in Wisconsin comes with its benefits. The dinning-out culture is always the best, and has some of the best appetizers. With that being said, I come to give you the best cheese curds of Oshkosh, specifically sticking to local restaurants.
- Pete’s Garage
In fifth place is Pete’s Garage. This dive bar is located on 1514 Oregon St. Their cheese curds are very good, with a good size, a good dip factor and they give you like 1,000 of them. While having plenty of cheese curds is nice to share, or eat alone, they give you so many that you start to feel gluttonous after eating 10. However, they give you so many for only $10. It’s well worth feeling like crap over.
- Fox River Brewing Co.
With a beautiful location, on 1501 Arboretum Dr., you can get some delicious cheese curds with a side of honey mustard. Their cheese curds are light, but also at the same time a little dense and can leave you satisfied until your meal comes out. On the downside, they are a bit pricey with them being $14.
- Beckets
Once again I give you scenic views. Located on the river at 2 Jackson St., Beckets holds the third place line for cheese curds. These cheese curds, or shall I say cheese cubes, are crunchy and bubbly. These are different from the others not only because of their shape, but also because they are served with marinara sauce on the side. These also are on the pricier side of being $15, and come with a smaller portion.
- Ruby Owl Tap Room
A fun bar that often does trivia nights on Monday’s holds the second place stop for cheese curds. Ruby Owl is located on 421 N. Main St., and has a large and diverse menu full of delicious food. However, the cheese curds are almost perfect here. For only $10.95, you get a platter of beer battered cheese curds, that are light and airy, but are filled with cheese. Don’t forget to ask for extra ranch on the side!
- Tj’s Harbor Restaurant
In first place is Tj’s Harbor. Once again, giving you great views right on the lake, this restaurant is located on 7098 U.S. Highway 45. These cheese curds are super light and fluffy, but also are packed with salty cheese. On the plus side, they also have a gluten free option available! These cheese curds are $12, and are definitely worth the far drive out of town.
As I mentioned, cheese curds are a must have at a restaurant as an appetizer. They’re also hard to mess up, so they’re bound to be good wherever you go. Cheese curds are the one item that remain as a comfort food for all.
