Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

There is an endless list of challenges that our community is facing every day. An example of one of the major challenges that not only our community but rather the whole world is facing is violence.

Violence has been a part of our world’s history since the very beginning. It has been seen in multiple ways: war, shootings, domestic violence, rape, murder and more. As people, we generally like to see ourselves as good, and we would assume that with time, we would only get wiser and not make as many bad decisions. Unfortunately, that is not the case.

It seems like every day we hear of another case of violence happening somewhere in the world on multiple occasions. It’s hard to feel safe anywhere anymore. With recent shootings in the world, citizens are fearful of doing ordinary activities like going to movie theaters, concerts and even school.

Our society has turned to one that is living in fear. As a result of the violence in the world, Americans specifically are resorting to purchasing weapons to be able to protect themselves. However, the solution is that we all need to learn to treat each other with respect and not be afraid to ask for help.

Stopping violence altogether could be an impossible thing, but lowering the amount of violence in the world isn’t. As humans, we need to take a step back and be less selfish. We need to work together and help and support each other.

Let’s hope for a day where violence is a concept that is only found in history books.
