Dealing with food insecurity on campus

Berkley Lake

After its establishment and abrupt COVID-19 based closure in 2020, UW Oshkosh’s food pantry, The Cabinet, has been providing items of great importance to its students. While everyone has access to The Cabinet via their school ID, very little take advantage of this opportunity.

As of 2018, over 16 thousand students were currently enrolled, online or in-person, at UW-Oshkosh. In comparison, The Cabinet, during the Fall 2020 term, served merely 161 students.

Food insecurity is a dominant unspoken issue because of our society’s grasp on norms. While numerous individuals may need the support of the food pantry, they may be unaware of its benefits or too embarrassed to acknowledge their hunger.

The Cabinet, located in Reeve Union by Titan Underground, carries products of all kinds, such as canned goods, hygiene products and various drinks.

While the pantry can assist those looking for food items, they are also always seeking donations from anyone willing to help. If you or anyone you know is in need or willing to donate, do not hesitate to visit The Cabinet’s website (uwosh.edu/osa/cabinet-food-pantry/) for further information.
