Herd drop two games to Sioux Falls

The Wisconsin Herd was held to just 31 points in two quarters as the Herd fell to the Sioux Falls Skyforce 100-80 at the Sanford Pentagon Tuesday night.

Wisconsin had a 37-36 lead in the second quarter before the Skyforce went on a 9-0 run following six straight points from DJ Stewart. The Herd only scored five points in the final five minutes of action in the first half as Sioux Falls entered the locker room up 51-42.

The Herd scored the first basket of the second half after a Brandon Randolph layup, but Wisconsin would not score for over five minutes of game time in the third quarter. As the period came to a close, the Herd found themselves down 84-52 after scoring just 10 points in the quarter.

Wisconsin outscored the Skyforce 28-16 in the final quarter, but it was too little too late as the Herd fell 100-80 and the team dropped to 6-8 on the season.

The Herd jumped out to a 21-16 lead after the first quarter behind six points from Iverson Molinar as Wisconsin held Sioux Falls to just 27% shooting in the first 12 minutes.

Randolph led Wisconsin with 19 points and grabbed four rebounds while newly added Nate Roberts had a team high 11 boards and scored four points. Lindell Wigginton added 14 points off the bench as Elijah Hughes and Rob Edwards put up 14 and 16 points, respectively.

The Herd were without AJ Green and Sandro Mamukelashvili, who are with the Milwaukee Bucks, as well as Joe Wieskamp and Jordan Bone.

For the Skyforce, Orlando Robinson had a game-high 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season. All five starters were in double figures with Jamal Cain scoring 18 points, Stewart finishing with 16 points, Jamaree Bouyea scoring 18 points and Mychal Mulder adding 11 points.

With the loss, Wisconsin dropped to sixth place in the Central Division and 11th in the Eastern Conference of the NBA G League Showcase Cup.

Sunday, the Skyforce won their third-straight home game as they blew out the Herd 142-96 and Wisconsin dropped below .500 on the season.

Sioux Falls scored 73 points in the first half and shot 50% from the field in the game to cruise to an easy victory.

Robinson had a career-high 27 points and 19 rebounds for the Skyforce while Dru Smith added another 26 points. Miami Heat first-round draft pick Nikola Jović (not to be confused with fellow Serbian Nikola Jokic) scored eight points and grabbed 10 rebounds in his first game with Sioux Falls after being designated for assignment.

For the Herd, Edwards had a game-high 30 points to go along with seven rebounds and Wigginton added another 18 points off the bench.

Wisconsin came away with a road win against Grand Rapids on Nov. 30 as the Herd defeated the Gold 112-106.

The Herd pulled out the back-and-forth game due to Wisconsin’s domination in the paint, outscoring the Gold in the lane 62-48.

Mamukelashvili had a game-high 32 points and 14 rebounds while Edwards scored 19 points for the Herd.

The Herd will return to action on Dec. 14 when they take on the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (8-3) at the Oshkosh Arena.
