The UW Oshkosh swimming & diving teams both broke relay records on the first day of the 2024 WIAC Championships on Wednesday (Feb. 14).

In the women’s 800-yard freestyle relay, UWO’s Cadence Showalter, Francesca Schiro, Brianna Smith and Brianna Wesenberg finished third with a time of 7:47.36, breaking their own record of 7:48.01 from last year’s conference meet.

Oshkosh’s Amanda Richards, Bella Cichon, Showalter and Schiro placed fourth in the women’s 200-yard medley relay with the second program record of the day, racing the event in 1:47.96. The record was last set by Katie Challoner, McKinzie Halkola, Alison Panske and Taylor Teske during the 2016 WIAC Championship at 1:49.05.

The UWO men’s 200-yard medley relay squad of CJ Willert, Damen Seremet, Leo Ramirez-Gutierrez and Drew Davis set the program record with a fifth-place time of 1:36.47. The same squad had earlier set the record this season at the Carthage College Classic on Dec. 2.

In the final round of the 3-meter diving for the men, UWO’s Glen Cole finished eighth with 336.60 points

The women head into Thursday in a tie for third-place with UW-Stevens Point with 62 points and the men will enter Thursday’s events in fifth place with 67 points. The first event is scheduled for 10 a.m.
