The winningest women’s basketball coach in UW-Oshkosh history, Brad Fischer, is departing from his position to take an assistant coach position with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
“We are very excited to add Brad Fischer to the Husker women’s basketball family,” UNL women’s basketball head coach Amy Williams said in the school’s announcement June 8. “Brad’s successful head coaching experience at the collegiate level and reputation as an outstanding recruiter and developer will be the perfect addition to our program.”
After pacing the sidelines of the Kolf Sports Center for over a decade, Fischer compiled a 315-80 overall record, with a 145-48 mark in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).
He was the first WIAC conference basketball head coach to win at least 20 games in 13 consecutive seasons.
The Titans won six WIAC regular season titles, four WIAC conference tournament championships and made 11 NCAA Division III Championship tournament appearances with back-to-back final four appearances in the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons.
“Over the last 14 years, this place [Oshkosh] has become home,” Fischer said. “I am truly grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey – Jill Endries and the search committee that first gave me this opportunity, Darryl Sims, our sports information staff, athletic trainers, assistant coaches and all the people behind the scenes who helped make our program special. Most importantly and above all, I want to thank our players. Every player who ever said yes to be a Titan and lived that standard. The relationships we’ve built and the memories we’ve shared will stay with me forever.”
15 Titans received a combined 25 All-WIAC First Team nominations, while three of those players were named the WIAC conference player of the year. Two Titans were named conference newcomer of the year and four earned Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors.
Academically, UWO has been a member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s Academic Top-25 Honor Roll three times, with the Titans collecting College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors 12 times.
In addition to the teams’ success both on and off the court, Fischer garnered WIAC Coach of the Year six times, Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Public College D-III Coach of the Year four times, d3hoops.com Central Region Coach of the Year three times and Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Region Coach of the Year once.
Fischer said that although he’s leaving UWO, the impact the university had on him will be lasting.
“For 14 years, I gave everything I had to this university, this program, and the young women who wore our uniform,” he said. “In return, UW-Oshkosh gave me far more than I could ever repay. While I am excited for this next chapter, I leave with a tremendous amount of gratitude.”
According to UWO Athletics, the national search for the sixth head coach will begin as soon as possible, with Sims and Deputy Director of Athletics Abby Gildernick managing day-to-day operations until the position is filled.
