The UW Oshkosh men’s basketball team was defeated by the UW-Platteville Pioneers 76-75 on Feb. 4 and defeated the UW-River Falls Falcons 62-53 on Feb. 7.
The Titans kept pace in the first half only losing by four points in a 40-36 battle. UWO was able to outscore the Pioneers by only 3 points in the second half making the game end in a one-point loss for the Titans with a final score of 76-75.
UWO shot (23-58) 39.7% from the field and (11-31) 35.5% from beyond the 3-point line. The Titans shot (18-25) 72% from the free-throw line. The team was able to total 30 rebounds as well.
Platteville shot (26-53) 49.1% from the field and (10-20) 50% from 3-point range. The Pioneers shot (14-17) 82.4% from the free throw line. Platteville was able to pull down 35 rebounds as well.
UWO was led by junior Michael Metcalf-Grassman and senior Carter Thomas with 14 points each. Sophomores Brandon Beck and Joey LaChapell both entered double digits for the Titans as well. Beck with 11 and LaChapell with 10.
The Pioneers were led by Max Love with 21 points. Bristol Lewis and Aiden Wieczorek entered double digits in points as well. Lewis added 17 and Wieczorek had 12.
The Titans had a slow start to their game against UW-River Falls. The Falcons had a 30-24 lead on the Titans after the first half. UWO picked up the pace in the second half where they would outscore the Falcons by 15 points and end the contest with a final score of 62-53.
UWO shot (16-48) 33.3% from the field and (5-27) 18.5% from beyond the arc. The Titans shot (25-35) 71.4% from the free-throw line. The team was able to total 44 rebounds as well.
River Falls shot (20-65) 30.8% from the field and (6-21) 28.6% from 3-point range. The Falcons shot (7-12) 58.3% from the free throw line. River Falls was able to grab 36 rebounds as well.
The Titans had two scorers etch 15 points, both Metcalf-Grassman and LaChapell were the only scorers to hit double digits for the Titans. Senior Jonah Rindfleisch added nine points for the Titans.
The Falcons had two scorers with 11 points, both Owen Havlik and Reid Tengblad hit double digits for the Falcons. Drew Tengblad had nine points for the Falcons.
The Titans will return to action on Wednesday, Feb.11, for a home game against UW-Eau Claire at 7 p.m.
The Titans will also have a game on Saturday, Feb. 14, for an away game against number 19 nationally ranked UW-LaCrosse at 7 p.m.
