For the first time since the 2019-20 season, UW-Oshkosh men’s swimming swept WIAC Athlete of The Week, as sophomores Charlie Mason and Jacob Gordon notched swimmer and diver of the week accolades for the week of Feb. 2-8.
“Being named WIAC Diver of the week means a lot to me as at the end of the season the divers put in a TON of work making sure our hard dives are looking the best they can for the end of the season,” Gordon said. “It has been very challenging but rewarding to see myself competing at what I consider my best so far in my diving career.”
In the pool, Mason took first in two events during UWO’s final home dual against the Milwaukee School of Engineering. He took the top spot in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:19.54, as well as the 200-yard individual medley with a finish of 2:04.05. Mason also competed as the opening swimmer on the Titans’ 200-yard freestyle squad, swimming 1:33.34 en route to the team’s second place finish.
On the diving board, Gordon snatched personal bests against the Raiders. He finished the one-meter diving event with 263.55 points and placed second in three-meter dives with 2:45.45. For the Chesterfield Missouri native, this season is about more than podium placements. It’s about bouncing back from a pair of injuries that cut his freshman season short.
“I hit my head on the board in January last year and I tore my meniscus over the summer.” Gordon said. “A big challenge for me to overcome is my injuries that cut my season short last year. Through working with Jen [Zuberbier] the trainer and pouring in a ton of personal time into my recovery I’ve seen a lot of success and a healthy recovery.”
With the WIAC Swimming & Diving Championship around the corner, Gordon has high hopes and is excited to cheer on his dive mates.
“I have a big hope for the dive team in that we have all three men compete at conference. Last year we only had one male diver compete, and as much fun as it is to cheer teammates on and have teammates cheer you on, it would be amazing to see the three of [us] all competing at our bests. There’s also the team goal to place 4th in the WIAC as this would be the first time in a long time that UWO has done this.”
The 2026 WIAC Swimming & Diving Championship is set to take place on Feb 18-21 at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer, with the meet being hosted by UW-Whitewater. Both the Titan men and women look to win each program’s first WIAC Championship.
