The UW-Oshkosh women’s tennis team was defeated 6-1 in a dual against the Carroll University Pioneers at the Princeton Club in Jackson on Saturday, Feb. 28.
Kayla Gibbs and Brianna Owens kept the Titans from being swept in doubles competition with a 6-0 victory over Aaliyah Jacklin and Nawal Souki in the second flight. Olivia Pethan and Courtney Carpenter lost 6-3 in number one doubles. Mana Usui and Sarah Schaeffer lost 7-6 to Mia Franke and Gracie Niebler.
Usui earned UWO a team point by defeating Natasa Pupovac, 6-3, 6-4 at number one singles. The Pioneers would take the following five singles matches with the number four singles match being the only one to go in an extra set. Sarah Schaeffer would lose in the extra set 10-7. Gibbs lost 6-2, 6-3 against Katherine Trifilio in number two singles. Cate Gerl lost to Franke 7-6, 6-1 in the third flight. Rachael Carroll would be defeated by Makayla Counsell 6-4, 6-3 in the fifth singles match. Taylor Longdin lost to Erin Horzewski 6-3, 6-2 in the final singles match of the day.
The Titans return to action on Sunday March, 15 as they travel to Dubuque, Iowa to face the University of Dubuque on the Spartans’ Frank Farber Tennis Courts at 1:30 p.m.
