The nationally ranked No. 17 UW-Oshkosh softball team opened the season with a four-game sweep in the UWO Invite this past weekend.
The Titans defeated the College of St. Scholastica (Minnesota), Loras College (Iowa), UW-Superior and Wisconsin Lutheran College at the Rec Plex Dome in Oshkosh.
UWO defeated the College of St. Scholastica Saints 12-0. The Titans scored one-run in the first inning, eight runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to end the game on a seven-run rule.
Brianne Lopez, Amanda Martineck and Emma Bohn each batted in two RBI each. Grace Nardi was the winning pitcher with seven strikeouts and two walks in four innings. Brianna Bougie closed the game with one strikeout in one inning.
UWO defeated the Loras College Duhawks 3-2. The Titans scored all their runs in the third inning. The Duhawks scored runs in the sixth and seventh inning.
Kate Mary Quaid and Martineck were the only Titans to get RBI. Kiran Sanford was the winning pitcher with nine strikeouts and one walk in 4 2/3 innings. Bougie was credited with the save with four strikeouts and one walk on 2 1/3 innings.
The Titans defeated the UW-Superior Hornets 7-1. UWO scored one-run in the first inning and five runs in the second inning. UWS scored its first run in the third inning. The last run of the game came from the Titans in the sixth inning.
Sarah Hammerton batted in four RBIs for the Titans. Quaid and Martineck each had one RBI for UWO. Sanford was credited with the win bringing her record to 2-0. Sanford struck out five batters with only one walk. Nardi was credited with the save for the Titans.
UWO defeated the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors 5-1. The Warriors scored its only run in the first inning. The Titans would score runs in the second, fourth and fifth inning.
The Titans had five players each accumulating one RBI. Bougie was credited the win pitching six innings with two strikeouts. Skyler Calmes pitched one inning and had one strikeout for UWO.
