The UW Oshkosh women’s basketball team beat the UW-River Falls Falcons 68-41 and was defeated in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Championship by the UW-La Crosse Eagles 52-49 this past weekend.
The first quarter saw UWO take an early lead of 18-13 against River Falls. In the second quarter, the Titans outscored the Falcons 19-4, making the score at half 37-17 in favor of the Titans. The Falcons would keep pace with the Titans in the third quarter, with both teams scoring 14. UWO pulled away by even more, outshooting the Falcons by seven points in the fourth quarter. The final score of the contest was 68-41 in favor of the Titans.
UWO shot (24-for-55) from the field and (9-for-22) from beyond the arc. The team shot (11-for-15) from the free-throw line. The team was able to total 41 rebounds as well.
River Falls shot (15-for-55) from the field and (3-for-15) from 3-point range. The team shot (8-for-9) from the free throw line. The team was able to pull down 31 rebounds as well.
The Titans were led by sophomore Paige Seckar with 14 points, shooting (6-for-10) from the field. Junior Sammi Beyer added 12 points for the Titans, shooting (5-for-11) from the field. Senior Olivia Argall added nine points, all from the three point line, shooting (3-for-6). Senior Avery Poole had eight points for UWO.
Emily Anderson led the Falcons with 10 points, shooting (3-for-7) from the field. Zoey Buchan followed with eight points for River Falls. Taylor Clarey, Jocelyn Plonski and Olivia Boily all had six points for the Falcons.
In the WIAC Championship game, the Titans took an early lead of 19-10 against the Eagles. In the second quarter, the Eagles outpaced the Titans by two points, but UWO still had the lead at the half with a score of 29-22. The Titans came out of the half stronger than the Eagles, making the score 44-36 in favor of the Titans. In the fourth quarter, the Titans only scored five points to the Eagles 16 making the final score 52 Eagles, 49 Titans.
UWO shot (20-for-53) from the field and (4-for-14) from beyond the arc. The team shot (5-for-7) from the free-throw line. The team was able to total 36 rebounds as well.
UW-La Crosse shot (20-for-54) from the field and (6-for-15) from 3-point range. The team shot (6-for-12) from the free-throw line. The team was able to pull down 33 rebounds as well.
The Titans had three players in double digits, Seckar with 12 points, Sarah Hardwick with 11 points and Beyer with 11 points as well.
The Eagles also had three players hit double digits in Molly Janke with 12 points, Grace Knupp with 11 and Madisyn Kilboten with 10.
The Titans will be back in action hosting the first round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Tournament on Friday, March 6th, where the team will be taking on Webster University (Missouri) at 7:15 p.m.
