The UW-Oshkosh baseball team fell to 3-4 on the season after going 1-2 in play this week in Sauget, Illinois against Webster University from Missouri, Hanover a University from Indiana, and Milwaukee School of Engineering.
UWO split a doubleheader after getting mercy ruled 14-4 against Webster (5-9) and a win against Hanover (3-7) 7-4 later in the day on Saturday, March 13.
In the first game, the Titans got out to a two-run deficit before plating four runs in the top of the second inning. Danny Connelly started the inning with a homer, before Jack McNamara, Braydon Skenandore, and Brenden Max scored on two errors. However, the Titans would allow 11 unanswered runs, giving up eight in the seventh inning to put the nail in the coffin.
Josh Jansen started the game, going five and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on seven hits, with five strikeouts and one walk. Josh Richardson went a third of an inning, allowing four runs on two hits, zero strikeouts, and one walk. Hoyt Keller allowed four runs in two-thirds of an innings, allowing two hits, two walks, while striking out one. Michael Hughes allowed two hits to two batters, effectively ending the game.
In the second game of the day, Oshkosh was trailing four-two late, before scoring four in the eighth to inspire a comeback saving the Titans from the jaws of defeat. In the seventh Aaron Davis ground out led to Skenandore scoring, before the Titans exploded the following inning. Mateo Gamboa tripled in two runs, scoring both Gavin Persson and Tim Witchger. Later, McNamara singled in Gamboa, and Skenandore grounded out allowing McNamara to score, which ended up being the final run to score.
Baris Brau gave up two runs, walking three, hitting two, and recording zero outs, before Cooper Kamlay relieved him for four innings. Kamlay allowed two runs on five hits, struckout five, and walked one. Colten Kachinsky went two innings, allowing zero runs to score, while giving up two hits, striking out three and walking one. Benje Hencke earned the win, going two innings, striking out four and walking three. Ryan Richter shut the game down, earning his first save of the year, pitching one inning, striking out one and walking one.
Oshkosh was defeated by MSOE by a final score of 7-5 in a closely contested game on Saturday afternoon.
The Titans opened the scoring in the fourth inning with two runs, while the Raiders got one in the bottom of the frame. Both teams scored two in the fifth inning, until Oshkosh broke the tie in the seventh with one run, Milwaukee immediately responded with four runs, which would end up being the final score.
UWO’s Skenandore did the heavy lifting on offense by hitting a solo homer in the fourth inning and driving in Persson and Logan Schill on a two run single in the fifth.
Connor Walters started the game going four and a third innings, allowing three runs on six hits, two walks, and striking out six. Keller went one and a third inning scoreless while striking out two, before Hencke allowed four runs, three earned by allowing two hits and two walks in a third of an inning. Richters and Ben Buehring didn’t allow a run in an inning combined.
Oshkosh will be back in action against Illinois Wesleyan University on the road Friday, March 20th at 3 p.m.
