The UW-Oshkosh baseball team won the series against UW-Stevens Point that was heavily affected by mother nature over the weekend. The series that was originally scheduled to take place on April 3-4 at Tiedmann Field was moved to Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School with the second half of game 2 on April 3, along with both games scheduled for April 4, was moved to Sunday, April. 5.
The Titans swept the first two games of the series that started on Friday. Josh Jansen started game one, pitching seven innings while allowing only one run on five hits to earn the win. Ryan Richter pitched the final two innings to earn the save. All of UWO’s scoring came in the fourth and sixth innings with a sac bunt from Owen Housinger and a two run single from Trevor Morris to give the Titans a 3-1 win.
Brett Gaynor earned the win in game two despite allowing four runs. Gaynor pitched all six innings before the game was suspended and struck out eight. The Titans went into the delay in the bottom of the sixth with a 9-4 lead that was carried by a four-run second and a three-run fourth. A home run in the eighth inning by Danny Connelly put a stamp on a 10-5 win.
The Pointers, behind two 2-run home runs in the second and third innings by UWSP second baseman Drew Mistele, took game three in a 12-3 blowout. Connor Walters took the loss for the Titans, allowing eight runs on 10 hits in his 5.1 innings of work.
In the fourth and final game of the series against the Pointers saw UWO get the victory in a 10-0 blowout behind a complete eight inning game from Baris Bura, as he allowed only five hits with seven strikeouts. Designated hitter Jack McNamara and shortstop Aaron Davis each had three combined RBI doubles, with first baseman Brayden Skenadore hitting a home run to help the Titans to enact the NCAA mercy rule to finish the game in eight innings.
The Titans will shift their attention to a doubleheader against UW-Whitewater on April 8 followed by a four game series at UW-Platteville on April 11-12. The series vs the Warhawks was originally scheduled to take place at Oshkosh, but both teams agreed to flip the series’ around so UWO will be traveling to Whitewater.
