The UW-Oshkosh baseball team split its series against UW-Platteville on the weekend of April 12-13. The series was originally held to be scheduled at UWP but was moved to UW-Whitewater’s Prucha Field due to unplayable field conditions. Not only was it the second straight series that the Titans had been moved to a different site, but it also was UWO’s second straight series that ended with a postponed tripleheader that had the middle of game two and the games three and four be wrapped in the same day.
In the first originally scheduled doubleheader of the series. UWO dropped game one 11-4 to the Pioneers. Josh Jansen took the loss for the Titans, giving up seven runs on 10 hits in his four and a half innings of work. Despite falling down 2-0 early in the first, the Titans responded with a pair of two-run home runs in the second and fifth innings from Trevor Morris and Logan Schill to give the Titans a brief 4-2 lead. That was until a five-run bottom of the fifth by Platteville followed by a four run inning after that gave the Pioneers the win.
In the two and a half innings of game two before it was suspended, UWO held a 5-1 lead behind a four run first inning. Brett Gaynor started the game for the Titans, pitching two and a half innings before the game entered the delay and was ultimately suspended. When the game resumed on Monday, UWO tallied three more runs in the fourth and fifth innings to build an 8-1 lead before a six-run inning in the bottom of the fifth by the Pioneers made it an 8-7 game. Platteville ended up taking the lead at 9-8 in the seventh inning, but three runs in the ninth by the Titans by a reach on an error from Braydon Skenandore and an Aaron Davis RBI single gave UWO the 10-9 win.
In game two of the tripleheader, UWO fell 12-1 to the Pioneers. UWP got on Titans starter Connor Walters, scoring 10 runs on nine hits in the first two innings against Walters. The only scoring of the day for UWO came on a Danny Connelly rbi groundout in the fifth inning.
In the final game of the tripleheader and the series, UWO took in a 12-6 blowout win. Despite allowing six runs on eight hits, starter Boris Bura earned the win with his 7.2 innings of work while striking out nine on the day. The Titans put up nine runs combined in the second and fourth innings behind a pair of three-run homers from Schill and Gavin Persson along with a two-run homer from Brendan Max to help open up a 9-2 lead. Platteville did cut the lead down to 9-6 in the bottom of the fourth before UWO put up three more runs to end the game with the 12-6 win.
The Titans return to action with a pair of doubleheaders at UW-River Falls on April 18-19. First pitch times for each game will take place at noon and 3 p.m.
