The Oshkosh Police Department has upped the charges to first degree intentional homicide on a 32-year-old man that shot another person on the 700 block of W. 9th Ave. last Monday after the victim died in the hospital Jan. 9 from gunshot wounds sustained in the incident.
The Winnebago County District Attorney’s Office will lead the investigation into the shooting.
At 1:27 p.m. on Jan. 5, the male suspect entered the OPD building on Jackson Street and told staff that he had just shot another male inside a residence. Officers immediately responded to the home and found the victim inside with a gunshot wound. The Oshkosh Fire Department transported the victim to a local hospital, where he received medical treatment for life-threatening injuries.
The suspect was initially taken into custody for attempted first-degree intentional homicide and possession of methamphetamine.
According to OPD, the suspect and the victim know each other, and the shooting was an isolated incident.
OPD Sergeant Kyle Roberts said in a press release that the investigation is still ongoing.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and the victim’s family during this difficult time,” Roberts said.
If anyone has information regarding this incident, they are encouraged to contact OPD at 920-236-5700 or the Winnebago County Crime Stoppers at 920-231-8477.
