The Titans went 2-0 this past week to improve to 8-2 after beating Ripon College on Wednesday and St. Norbert College on Saturday.
The UW Oshkosh’s men’s basketball team dominated Ripon after cruising to a 100-74 win at home in the Kolf Sports Center on Dec. 17.
The Titans shot 65% from the field in the first half and hit seven three-pointers to secure a 57-33 lead at halftime over the Red Hawks and never looked back.
Oshkosh managed to generate 34 points off turnovers, leading 26-6 in fast break points, and hit 14 total three-pointers.
UWO had 4 players with double-digit points and 41 bench points. Brandon Beck led the team, shooting 7-13 from the field, with 21 points and 6 rebounds. Michael Metcalf-Grassman shot efficiently 7-9 from the field, second on the team with 17 points, and 6 rebounds. Aiden Hawkinson had 15 points, Joey LaChapell went 2-2 from deep, also had 12 points, and 3 assists. Carter Thomas went 7-8 from the free-throw line, and Nate Nazos led the team with 3 steals.
The Titans won a hard-fought game against the Green Knights 88-81 at home in the Kolf Sports Center on Dec. 20.
Oshkosh carried a narrow 49-47 lead into halftime and continued to execute in the second half, outscoring St. Norbert 39-34 to secure the win. There were 6 ties and 12 lead changes; however, Oshkosh led in second chance points 10-4, fast break points 13-8 and the remaining stats were mostly even.
The Titans shot 46.2% from the field and knocked down 13 three-pointers, finishing at 35.1% from beyond the arc. Oshkosh’s LaChapell led all scorers with 22 points, shooting an efficient 8-9 from the field and a perfect 5-5 from three-point range, while also adding two steals. Thomas had himself a day finishing with 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Metcalf-Grassman and Beck each chipped in 12 points, with Metcalf-Grassman grabbing five rebounds and Beck adding three assists and three rebounds. Nazos contributed defensively with two steals, while Oskar Kangas pulled down six rebounds. Hawkinson added eight points and four rebounds as Oshkosh’s balanced effort helped close out a sweep for the week.
Oshkosh will continue its home trip by facing the 7-3 Lawrence University on Sunday, Dec. 28, at 6 P.M. at the Oshkosh Arena for the BSN Winter Classic, before heading on the road for two games.
