To the Editor:
Although the article on the offensive “cream pie” sign was informative, it did not indicate what legal grounds the university administration or police had for going on private property and having the sign removed.
Students do have legal rights, after all, and those include guarding against illegal search and seizure and protecting the first amendment right to free speech–even if (or especially if) the sign in question offended people.
It offended me, too, but I’m more offended when the first amendment gets trampled.
