With the regular season winding down, UW Oshkosh baseball looks to build consistency, as well as making improvements on a day-to-day basis. Sophomore infielder Tyler Kozlowski said the team works hard every day. “As a team, we know where we want to be at the end of the year, and we try to take it day by day to keep getting better in order to reach our final goal,” Kozlowski said. Kozlowski said he doesn’t feel the team has played a conference team this year that they can’t beat on any given night. “We see ourselves competing for the conference championship,” Kozlowski said. Kozlowski said this year’s team is probably the closest team he’s ever been a part of. “We all like to hang out off the field, and that chemistry carries onto the field,” Kozlowski said. Head coach Kevin Tomasiewicz said the team is young, and stressed that the players learn through experience. “We are very young in all areas of the game, and we have made mistakes that I hope we can correct in the very near future,” Tomasiewicz said. “Many of the mistakes have been made through over-aggressive play. When we learn to eliminate those mistakes, we will be very good; it is just a learning curve for our guys right now.” Tomasiewicz said he’s impressed with the team’s ability to compete with the top teams in the conference. “We didn’t have the best record against these teams, but we played hard and were in every game,” Tomasiewicz said. “We have resiliency this year, and guys believe they can win every time they step onto the field.” Although they did drop the series’ to Whitewater, Stevens Point and La Crosse, UWO did pick up key victories against each of them. Senior outfielder Luke Gajewski said everyone is playing hard. “I like the position we’re in, and I think we’re poised to make a run if we stay focused, positive and continue improving,” Gajewski said. Despite a relatively slow start, the Titans are currently riding a nice winning streak, as they swept a four-game series against conference foe UW-Superior and got a victory against North Park University (Ill.) by a score of 15-9. The team will round out the end of the regular season campaign with a trip to UW-Stout for a four-game series, April 25-26, and will then return home for a pair of games against Lawrence University and Ripon College, and end with an important four-game series against the Pioneers of UW-Platteville.
