The Oshkosh Police Department arrested five men between the ages of 23-43 years old in an undercover human trafficking investigation on the South side of Oshkosh Nov. 20.
OPD’s Vice and Narcotics Unit worked with the department’s detectives and patrol officers to arrest the individuals from Oshkosh, Fond du Lac and Appleton on pandering charges.
OPD Public Affairs Officer Kate Mann said that Oshkosh police continue to work diligently to investigate and combat human trafficking in the city.
“For a variety of reasons, it can be very hard for Human Trafficking victims to get out of these situations,” Mann said in a press release. “We partner with local non-profit organizations so that resources can be quickly provided to victims.”
Mann said that OPD strives to reduce the number of human trafficking victims by doing proactive investigations and by being vigilant in their efforts to combat human trafficking.
“Our door is always open to those seeking help, and we encourage anyone with information or concerns about human trafficking to come forward,” Mann said. “Together, we can create a safer community and enhance the quality of life for everyone.”
If found guilty of a Class D felony (benefiting from human trafficking), the five men could face up to 25 years in prison and a fine of up to $100,000.
The investigation is still ongoing and OPD encourages anyone with information regarding this incident to contact police at 920-236-5700 or the Winnebago County Crime Stoppers at 920-231-8477. Investigators want to remind the public that if their tip leads to an arrest, they may be eligible for a cash reward.
