The No. 5 ranked Titans extended its six-game winning streak on Oct. 24 as they beat No. 20 UW-Platteville 63-28 on the road. The Pioneers came into Saturday’s game undefeated at home and riding a two-game winning streak. The Titans have now advanced their record to 6-1 while the Pioneers move to 5-2. Head coach Pat Cerroni said the dominant win by the Titans is nothing short of impressive. “As a coach I am probably a little shocked at how well we played,” Cerroni said. “We have a very committed team right now, and they definitely have something to prove.” The Titans were coming off of a 21-10 win against UW-Stevens Point that was slow in terms of scoring. Its first score did not come until the middle of the third quarter. As a result, Oshkosh relied a lot on the defense. Quarterback Brett Kasper, who played in his first game since his injury, said the team felt good about putting up those types of numbers. “It feels great,” Kasper said.“The way we played we, felt pretty good with ourselves beating a Platteville team that is pretty good by that margin.” The Titans got off to a fast start, scoring 28 points in the first quarter. The Pioneers struck first after a 19-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tom Kelly; however, that would be the only time of the game that the Pioneers had the lead. The Titans struck right back on its next possession with a 41-yard touchdown pass from wide receiver Dylan Hecker, followed by a 69-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Zach Kasuboski from Kasper. The Titans continued to run away with the lead after a successful onside kick, which lead to a 5-yard touchdown run from Hecker, putting the Titans up 21-7 with 5:38 still remaining in the first quarter. With 32 seconds remaining in the first, another Hecker touchdown run quarter gave the Titans a 28-7. Both teams scored a touchdown in the second quarter, making the score 35-14 at the half. Each team scored a pair of touchdowns again in the third, making the score 49-28 in the Titans’ favor. In the fourth quarter, the Titans extended their lead after scoring two more touchdowns, including a 77-yard touchdown pass from Kasper that brought the game’s final score to 63-28. “It feels really good right now,” Kasuboski said. “We knew that we were a pretty good team, but we didn’t realize how good we actually can be when we play to the capability that we can play.” The Titans return home on, Oct. 31 against UW-River Falls 2 p.m.
