Worst Roommate Stories

"Senior Vincent Albin “At three in the morning this guy called me, while we were both in the house, and asked me, ‘Hey man, how do I check if I have an STD?’ And I go, ‘I don’t know man. Why don’t you go to a Planned Parenthood or Walgreens and get a kit or something like that?’ He then calls Planned Parenthood at 3:30 in the morning and I have to explain to him that Planned Parenthood is not open at 3:30. Then I had to stay up with and have him describe all of his symptoms and I was uncomfortable. I’m very close with this guy, but there are some things I don’t need to know.”

"Graduate Student Shelby McIlheran “I got a text- I didn’t even get a call- that said, ‘Hey, I’m in the hospital, just to let you know.’ I was just like, ‘Okay,’ and finished eating my Poptart. It was the week before spring finals my freshman year. She actually would disappear before this, during the year, and I’d always make sure I had an alibi in case she didn’t come back.”"

"Junior Tatiana Crocket “I used to have a roommate who liked to leave her food out and it would get rotten and we’d have little gnats everywhere. She left some microwavable ravioli for about four days. I told her about it and she was like, ‘Oh I’ll take it out,’ but she never did so I ended up throwing it out. I mean, it was hidden but it was still there.” "

"Senior Greg Rand “You know when your roommate has to get up first in the room for class? Well, it was in Horizon and one guy tied a loop to two door handles so whenever the one who had to leave tried to open it and get out the door would get pulled back closed. So they’re trying to go and just couldn’t and the others are just laughing quietly.” "

"Senior Michael Nitti “I had a roommate, who’s still one of my best friends, that had mono my freshman year, which was unfortunate for me because he stayed here instead of going home and my room was kind of disgusting and I didn’t want to get sick. He’d wake up in the middle of the night and ask me for water and stuff and I got to my breaking point where I moved into my other friend’s room for a month. The next semester we roomed with other people.” "

“I was actually the terrible roommate. One time, when I was a freshman, I tried making ramen in one of those portable cup things. So I took off the lid and then cooked it without any water in it. I took it out and it was all black, completely burned. Our room smelled terrible for a week. My roommate just laughed it off and said ‘You’re an idiot.’”

“I was a CA at one point and an entire floor started a water balloon fight. Also, a couple of my residents, they were freshman girls, turned their lofts into a slide. They put their mattress up against the top bunk and were trying to slide down it. They were sober, too, which surprised me.”

Freshman Kailyn DeBlaey “I don’t have a roommate, but I did know one girl who found out her roommate was actually her third cousin. They were freshmen and they had never met before then found out they were related distantly so it was a little family reunion.”
