The Oshkosh Fire Department announced it will be hosting its 26th annual food and toy drive with five dates for donations between Dec. 2-16, with fire trucks circling each drop-off route between the hours of 5:30-8 p.m.
“We are, once again, collecting non-perishable food items, new, unwrapped gifts, wrapping paper/tape and cash donations along the routes or at any fire station,” Oshkosh Fire Department Public Information Officer John Holland said in a press release. “Over the years the citizens of Oshkosh have helped us give hundreds of families a better holiday season.”
The dates for this year’s Oshkosh Fire Department Local 316 Food and Toy Drive are: Dec. 2 (South side of the city), Dec. 4 (Central City), Dec 10 (West side of the city), Dec. 12 (Northwest side of the city) and the final donation day will be Dec. 16 (Northeast side of the city). All donation routes are scheduled to start between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
Last year, the food and toy drive collected over 5,000 pounds of food, 2,000 toys and $3,500 in cash donations. Any cash that is donated to the Oshkosh Fire Department as part of the food and toy drive are given to the Gary Kassube Scholarship Program, which is awarded to two graduating Oshkosh high school seniors enrolled in police or fire science programs.
