The 2015 season for the men’s tennis team has come to an end The men’s tennis program will be cut once this season is completed, and the players wanted to leave it all out on the court. Sophomore Austin Laumb said the level of camaraderie on this year’s team contributed to their growth as a unit. “As a team, we started out not really knowing each other to becoming a family,” Laumb said. “My teammates and I have truly gave it our all, and we’ve become the closest group that I have ever seen and been a part of.” Laumb said despite a rocky start, the team has grown into a group that can compete with anyone. “This post-season is going to be a rough one, just from the aspect of going into a season knowing it will be our last,” Laumb said. Freshman David Leffler said he is also pleased with the level of effort everyone has put forth. “We had a very tough schedule this year, but we all played really hard every match,” Leffler said. “This year was kind of a building year and it is unfortunate that we won’t be able to have a team in a few years.” Leffler said the last match of the regular season is one that displayed the best play from the Titans. “I think our best match was the last match of the season against Concordia,” Leffler said. “We all won pretty convincingly because it was our last match and it was at home.” The Titans turned around a string of losses with a statement victory over the Falcons of Concordia University by a score of 9-0. Freshman Jordan Andersen also noted the improvement of this season’s team. “Although we did not make it to the national tournament and achieve our ultimate goal, we saw clear improvement through every match and every week of practice,” Andersen said. “Everyone gave 110 percent from start to finish of every match, from the first to the last, and the effort stayed at that level.” Andersen said this year’s team displayed passion for the game of tennis, and it’s unfortunate that the program is being cut. “It’s really amazing how much this team just loves the game and how much we all love to play, and it’s disheartening to see the program being cut,” Andersen said. “It’s very rare to have a team that has no outsiders, but that was our team this year.” The Titans ended the 2015 regular season with a final record of 7-15, which included an undefeated record at home.
