The UW Oshkosh women’s tennis team secured a 6-3 win over UW-Stevens Point on Oct. 13.
The match was previously scheduled to take place at Kolf Sports Center Outdoor Tennis Courts but was moved to Fox Cities Racquet Club in Appleton due to poor weather.
The Titans (8-3, 3-3 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) claimed two of the three doubles over UW-Stevens Point (4-4, 1-4 WIAC). Ella Nguyen and Courtney Carpenter outscored Quinlyn Mack and Chloe Leithold 8-6 in doubles match No. 2 while Jameson Gregory and Kayla Gibbs claimed the No. 3 doubles with an 8-7 victory against Brooklynn Steier and Abigail Ashley. In the doubles set No. 1 pointers Tristin Jantz and Jordan Scharf defeated Olivia Pethan and Alysa Pattee with a 6-8 score.
In singles contest No. 1, Jantz defeated Pethan (2-6, 3-6) and Pattee dropped the No. 2 flight to Mack (4-6, 6-2). Nguyen claimed the win pushing the No. 3 singles to three sets against Scharf (6-1, 5-7, 12-10). Gregory took the No. 4 singles versus Leithold (6-3, 6-0), while Jenna Noble claimed the win against Steier (6-4, 6-4) in singles No. 5. Gibbs pushed the No. 6 matchup to three sets to take the victory (2-6, 6-4, 10-6).
UWO won its second match of the week by shutting out UW-Stout 9-0 at home on Oct. 15.
The Titans swept all three doubles matches over the Blue Devils (1-9, 1-5 WIAC), starting the No. 1 doubles match with Pethan and Pattee outscoring Ellie Becker and Ella Lamppa 8-1. In the No. 2 doubles, Nguyen and Carpenter shut out Blue Devils Ashlyn Dellemann and Lexie Stein 8-0. Gregory and Gibbs delivered another 8-0 shutout against Halle Bruggeman and Megan Kokesh in the No. 3 flight.
Oshkosh also swept all of the singles contests. Pethan outscored Becker (6-4, 6-4) in the No. 1 singles, Pattee claimed the No. 2 singles against Dellemann (6-1, 6-4), Nguyen beat Stein (6-1, 6-0) in the No. 3 singles, Gregory beat Lamppa (6-2, 6-0) in the No. 4 singles. Nolde started the No. 5 match off 5-1 before Bruggeman withdrew due to injury and Gibbs beat Claire Dicke (6-1, 6-1) in the No. 6 singles.
The Titans will head to Nielsen Tennis Stadium for the annual WIAC Championship in Madison starting at 1 p. m. on Oct. 21 and will continue on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 9 a.m.
